The inception of Tinsukia College in the year 1956 was the result of the strenuous efforts of citizens of Tinsukia who mobilized all required resources to give rise to the great institution. The college who has completed Sixty-nine years of its glorious existence is a premier institution of higher education in the North East part of Assam catering the needs of higher education not only to the citizens of Assam but also the adjoining districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The college has made a rapid stride on the merit of its students, the dedication of the faculties and the vision of the principals. An institution which initiated its academic journey with handful of students and four faculty members has now grown into a huge family with an enrolment of more than 4,000 students and around 80 faculties contributing to the growth of this premier institution of higher education. This co-ed institution has been imparting education at all levels of education i.e. Higher Secondary, Degree & Master level respectively in 5 faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management and Computer Science. Currently, the college has altogether 19 teaching department at UG level, 4 departments at Master degree levels Viz.- M. Com, M. Sc in Mathematics, M. Sc. in Chemistry and M. Sc in Computer Science. Besides, it provides two professional degree courses, Viz.- BBA and BCA. The college has also a study centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) which offers several UG, PG, Diploma and Certificate programmes. 

The College has State of Arts instructive to support the holistic development of the students. It has taken initiative to make the entire teaching learning process, students centric and interactive with the help of smart class rooms. The entire admission process is fully computerized which is beneficial to all stakeholders.
